        Michigan Lighthouses

Michigan has more lighthouses than any other state - and many of them line the Lake Michigan coast, just a short drive from Grand Rapids.

Grand Haven Lighthouse. This 51-foot tall, fire engine-red lighthouse is situated on a walkable pier in Grand Haven State Park. It overlooks Grand Haven Beach - named one of America's best secret beaches by Travel+Leisure magazine.

Approx. 35 miles from downtown Grand Rapids.

Holland Harbor Lighthouse. Also known as "Big Red," this three-story building is topped with a gray-shingled roof and square tower. The twin-gabled design reflects a Dutch influence.

Approx. 35 miles from downtown Grand Rapids.

Muskegon South Pier Lighthouse. There are actually three lights that mark the channel connecting Lake Michigan to Lake Muskegon. The oldest of the three is the 1903 tower that stands at the end of the pier.

Approx. 44 miles from downtown Grand Rapids.

White River Light Station. Built in 1875, this lighthouse is now a museum open to the public. Climb the spiral staircase to the top, browse photos and nautical artifacts, and look across Lake Michigan as the Keeper did a century ago.

Approx. 60 miles from downtown Grand Rapids.
