          Ferris State

          Overview

          Ferris State University is the fastest growing public university in Michigan, with more than 14,000 students enrolled in classes on the main campus in Big Rapids, Michigan, 19 off-campus sites in Grand Rapids and throughout Michigan, and FSU's Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids. The school emphasizes a hands-on approach to education that enables students to learn practical skills for new jobs in a changing world.

          History

          FSU was founded in 1884 as the privately owned Big Rapids Industrial School. It became a state institution in 1950, and it underwent several name changes before becoming Ferris State University in 1987.

          Programs

          FSU in Grand Rapids offers Associate, Bachelor and Master degrees in more than 25 areas, as well as a variety of professional certificate programs.

          Students

          FSU - Grand Rapids students take classes at Grand Rapids Community College in the heart of downtown. Students can take advantage of dorm-style living in Ferris-affiliated housing or arrange their own housing.

          Athletics

          FSU offers 15 intercollegiate sports at its main campus in Big Rapids, including NCAA Division I men's ice hockey. No athletics are offered in Grand Rapids.

          Location

          FSU classes are held at Grand Rapids Community College, in the midst of a downtown's business, entertainment and cultural district.
